A Step Ahead - until 31. January 2027
To mark the 125th anniversary of the first exhibition by the Darmstadt Artists’ Colony at the Mathildenhöhe, the Institut Mathildenhöhe Darmstadt is presenting the exhibition “A Step Ahead” to explore how design, architecture and art shape social developments: then as now.
Four visionary architectural exhibitions held between 1901 and 1914 gave Mathildenhöhe Darmstadt its current appearance and led to its inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The historic artists’ colony always viewed design as a holistic concept for improving everyday life. This progressive approach continues to have an impact to this day and forms the starting point for the exhibition.
A particular highlight: with the help of modern AI technologies, the artists’ colony’s historic exhibitions are brought back to life in impressive 3D visualisations.
The exhibition runs from 6 June 2026 to 31 January 2027 in the exhibition building at the UNESCO World Heritage Site Mathildenhöhe Darmstadt.

The vouchers worth 10, 25, 50 or 100 euros can be bought online and in the Darmstadt Shop and can be redeemed in about 60 shops and restaurants in Darmstadt.
