World Heritage Festival Mathildenhöhe - 6. + 7. June
Under the patronage of Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig of Hesse and by Rhine, Mathildenhöhe Darmstadt developed into a centre for outstanding artists, architects and designers at the beginning of the 20th century. Here, visionary artists sought their way into modernism and, in the context of four major exhibitions between 1901 and 1914, created a unique Gesamtkunstwerk (total work of art) consisting of buildings, gardens and sculptures.
On 6 and 7 June 2026, Mathildenhöhe will celebrate its World Heritage Festival, including the opening of the exhibition ‘A Step Ahead’ to mark the 125th anniversary of the first exhibition in 1901.
On Saturday (6 June), the World Heritage Site will be atmospherically illuminated, the Artists' Houses will be open, and there will be music, a craft market and food and drink on offer.
On Sunday (7 June), German World Heritage Day, there will be an extensive programme of guided tours and special offers for families.
