MUSEUM Jagdschloss Kranichstein

  • The Kranichstein Hunting Lodge MUSEUM tells the story of the long tradition of hunting in Darmstadt. Built as a royal estate in the 16th century, the lodge became the hunting residence of the Landgraves of Darmstadt in the 18th century. Parforce hunting and the practice of hunting in enclosed grounds in particular shaped the use of the estate. Today, the rooms and an extensive collection of historical hunting weapons and trophies offer a glimpse into this era.

Special exhibitions in the basement broaden the perspective to include current topics related to nature and culture. But it doesn’t stop at exhibitions: Through guided tours—some led by guides in historical costume—interactive workshops, and excursions across the palace grounds, history comes alive and becomes tangible. In this way, the museum connects the past with the present—vividly, in a multifaceted way, and always with an eye toward the bigger picture.
