Large Glückert House
Joseph Maria Olbrich designed the prestigious villa on Alexandraweg in 1901, which was purchased by the court furniture manufacturer Julius Glückert. He used it to showcase modern interiors. The house, designed differently on all sides, is surrounded by a garden; the large shield gables with relief decoration are striking.
The entrance leads up a small flight of steps through an omega-shaped portal with gilded ornamentation and an ornate wrought iron grille. The focal point inside is the large hall with floral wall decorations in pastel shades, stylised peacock feathers and light bulbs. Glückert altered the rooms several times, and parts have been preserved in the Artists' Colony Museum. The house remained undamaged during the war and still shows Olbrich's design today, supplemented by reconstructions from 1965.
From early October to early April, the Mathildenhöhe Information Point is located in the Large Glückert House. During the Information Point's opening hours, Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm, interested visitors can take a look at the rooms on the ground floor of the artists' house.
