Darmstadt Summer Garden at Ernst-Ludwigs-Platz
Darmstadt summer garden - colourful seating, trees and tables
Pop-up use on Ernst-Ludwigs-Platz
Darmstadt Marketing GmbH has installed a temporary summer garden on Ernst-Ludwigs-Platz on behalf of the City of Science Darmstadt. The approximately 120 square metre area alongside the Kaufhoff shop was colourfully designed by the artist Leonardo Wassermann. Twenty pieces of seating furniture, ten planters and ten folding tables were set up to match the colour scheme. The summer garden is intended to create a consumer-free space in the city centre by the end of October that is available to all citizens.
Until then, the project is intended to help revitalise the area around the former Kaufhof department store. The summer garden will be managed by Darmstadt Marketing - the plants will be maintained by an external service provider. The project is being financed by a funding programme to strengthen Darmstadt's city centre.
Following the project, the seating furniture and the mobile trees will be used elsewhere in the city centre. Ernst-Ludwigs-Platz is to be redesigned from the end of 2025.
