  • The Botanical Garden, which was established in 1874, boasts centuries-old exotic trees, winding paths in the Darmbachgrund and the Heidegarten, Moorgrund and Alpinum. The number of plant species cultivated in the garden on around 4.5 hectares of open land and almost 1,300 square meters under glass is between 8,000 and 9,000 and includes several times the number of species naturally occurring in Germany.

Tackle, plow and learn - the "Campus-Acker" project is transforming a fallow area into a diverse educational garden on a section of the botanical garden.

Here, student teachers can put their knowledge of arable farming to the test, develop concepts for environmental education and gain the necessary know-how to create and manage their own educational gardens at schools in the future. In addition to the vegetable and herb beds, there are small habitats that promote biodiversity on the site and illustrate ecological relationships.

The outdoor area of the Botanical Garden is open on weekdays (Monday to Friday) from 7:30 am to 7 pm and on Saturdays from 9 am to 7 pm.

On the first Sunday of every month, the outdoor area is open from 9 am to 6 pm.
