His world included Punch and Judy, the witch and the double Lottchen as well as modern industrial design: Fritz Eichler (1911-1991) studied art history and theatre studies. He worked as a gifted puppeteer, was involved in children's theatre and worked as a film director before he was employed by the Braun company in Kronberg in 1954.
He initially produced the Braun advertising films, but quickly rose to become head of the Braun design department. Here, too, he took over as director. As one of the first ‘creative directors’, he played a decisive role in the creation of the iconic Braun design based on the Bauhaus style. Under his direction, the legendary ‘Snow White Coffin’, the Braun SK 4 hi-fi system and the ‘Sixtant’ electric shaver were created. A close friend of company owners Erwin and Arthur Braun, he helped shape both the products and Braun's entire corporate philosophy. His dialogue with Wilhelm Wagenfeld, Hans Gugelot, Otl Aichler and the Ulm School of Design was intensive.
From 28 March to 27 April 2025, the Hessian Economic Archive is dedicating an exhibition to Fritz Eichler at the Designhaus Darmstadt, which traces the stages of the creative in all its exciting facets. Unique personal documents, drawings, photos and design objects by Braun are used to vividly tell the story of Eichler's life and work. The picture of a humanistic attitude in design and society unfolds.
