Guided tour at the Palace Museum
With the great role model of King Louis XIV of France in mind, many German sovereigns lived far beyond their means in their small states. For the Landgraves of Hesse-Darmstadt, too, a splendid court with pageant hunts and elaborately staged court festivals was an expression of their absolutist claim to power. Above all stood the landgraves Ernst Ludwig and Ludwig VIII , whose work has left numerous traces.
Discover the age of powdered wigs, sweeping skirts and strict courtly etiquette on this informative and entertaining tour.
