The Christmas trees for the Darmstadt Christmas market, which decorate the market square and Luisenplatz every year, traditionally come from the region. This year, both trees are from Wald-Michelbach/Kocherbach and can no longer remain in their current locations.

The tree for the market square is pushing up the tarmac surface of the passing road with its roots, while the tree for Luisenplatz in a private front garden has now become too large and is already damaging the foundations of the garden wall with its roots. However, a new planting is already planned here.

Market square: approx. 20 m tall silver fir (weight approx. 3.6 tonnes)

Lighting:

Since this year, the tree on the market square has had new lighting consisting of 13,500 LEDs. The lights are animated every hour from 6 pm.

The Darmstadt Showmen's Association, in co-operation with the City of Science Darmstadt, gave the Darmstadt Christmas market a landmark in 1996 with the Christmas pyramid on the market square fountain. The association finances the pyramid and the city provides support with the licences.

The pyramid was made in 1995 by the Hilmersdorf local history association in the Ore Mountains. For its 20th anniversary in 2015, the pyramid was given a new structural design with a substructure made of steel beams. It was also completely repainted and the lighting was converted to modern LED technology.

The assembly of the 9 metre high pyramid is carried out by the showmen's association and takes approx. 10 hours with 8 workers - the dismantling takes approx. 8 hours.

Manufacturer in 2nd generation of sheep's wool items from the Odenwald

All items made from virgin sheep's wool come from the own production. The company and production site is in the Odenwald. Here blankets, pillows, slippers and various other things are made from Oeko-Tex certified materials.

Due to the in-house production, it is possible to realize custom-made products at any time.

Werner Breidert has been at the Darmstadt Christmas market with his Odenwald wood works for almost 40 years. The wooden items such as kitchen utensils or lovingly individualized wooden boards and signs are always a great gift.

Individual branding is possible. Werner Breidert and his daughter try to carry out branding orders until Christmas.

For four years, mostly self-made cork items are also part of the range: e.g. bags, purses and accessories.

Hot chestnuts are simply part of the Christmas market. They taste delicious and warm the hands on cold days.
